The Will County Coroner’s Office on Friday identified a woman who had been found dead with apparent traumatic injuries as a 25-year-old from Joliet.
About 5 a.m. Thursday, police found the body of an unidentified woman near the intersection of California Avenue and Rosalind Street in Joliet, officials said. The woman who was found slain had suffered traumatic injuries, police said. It's not clear if a weapon was used to kill her, and there were no further details on the injuries she suffered.
“Officers are working on identifying the victim,” according to a statement released Thursday by the Joliet Police Department. “Once the victim is identified, the Will County Coroner’s Office will notify the next of kin and determine the cause of death.”
The coroner’s office said Friday that the woman had been identified as Shaianne P. Williams. Officials said she was pronounced dead about 10:25 a.m. Thursday near the Joliet intersection. An autopsy was performed Thursday, but coroner’s office officials failed to provide any information about the autopsy’s initial findings.
Williams was found dead about a block away from where three youths in 2018 found the body of 21-year-old Marissa Koziel, whose killer remains at large.
Just hours before Williams’ body was found, 24-year-old Dearis Evans of Lockport was mortally wounded near a Cora Street alley, close to Ruby Street, in Joliet. Evans was shot and later died.
