Volunteers needed to clean up after vandals; three boys arrested

TAMPICO – Volunteers are needed to help clean up after vandals with spray-paint hit multiple spots throughout the village last weekend.

Three 13-year-old boys, one from Tampico and two from Prophetstown, were arrested, Officer Will Lukehart said.

The Whiteside County state’s attorney’s office declined today to release what charges the three might be facing.

Damage was done at the Village Hall and Police Department, Booth Park, the Tampico ball diamonds, Tampico Elementary School, a storage shed facility, a privately owned Caterpillar excavator, random street signs and storage buildings on town property.

Police found six cans of spray paint in a cornfield north of the ball diamonds.

“I’ve never seen it be this extensive,” Lukehart said.

Volunteers are asked to meet at 8 a.m. today at Village Hall, 202 W. Second St.
