McHenry Jersey Mike's Subs set to open Wednesday, holding fundraiser for District 15 schools

Free sub fundraiser to support District 15 elementary schools

Jersey Mike’s Subs has announced its grand opening in McHenry, which will coincide with a fundraiser for McHenry School District 15 schools.

Franchise owners Dan Shafer and Richie Saunders will hold a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday to Oct. 27 to support Landmark Elementary School and Chauncey H. Duker School. The new restaurant, 1787 N. Richmond Road, offers both hot and cold sandwiches, with sides, drinks, desserts and kids’ meals.

The sub shop has been circulating 7,500 coupons throughout McHenry offering a free regular sub for a minimum $2 contribution to Landmark Elementary School and Chauncey H. Duker School. Customers must have a coupon to be eligible. Coupons have been distributed at nearby businesses and the schools.

“We wanted to give back to McHenry for all the support we’ve received from the city and its residents,” Saunders said. “Establishing a fundraiser partnership is showing the dedication we have to our youth and community’s future. We feel we can really take ‘a sub above’ to the next level by helping others.”

Before joining Jersey Mike’s, Shafer worked in customer service and was a franchise owner in the automotive industry. Saunders was a field trainer and worked in sales in the automotive industry.

“We were attracted to Jersey Mike’s and have partnered together on this new venture. Jersey Mike’s has the team atmosphere that we really enjoy,” Shafer said. “Richie and I are passionate about taking care of the customer, and this trait was represented in the product and employees of Jersey Mike’s.”

Since 2010, Jersey Mike’s locations throughout the country have raised more than $41 million for local charities and distributed more than 2 million free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes. In March, the company’s ninth annual Jersey Mike’s Month of Giving raised more than $7.3 million for more than 200 charities throughout the country.

Started in 1956, Jersey Mike’s now has 2,000 restaurants open and under development nationwide. Jersey Mike’s has two other McHenry County locations: Crystal Lake and Lake in the Hills.
