Cafe Olympic in Crystal Lake is being sold and will have new owners starting next week.
In a Facebook post, the owners of the restaurant at 90 N. Williams St. said they are announcing the news with a “heavy heart and a look into the future.”
According to the Facebook post, the diner will be placed under new ownership Tuesday.
“We would like to take this time to thank our employees who work tirelessly every day including weekends and holidays,” the owners wrote. “We have spent many hours together and you are family to us and we will greatly miss seeing you everyday. We love and appreciate you all more than you know!”
In the post, the owners also thanked customers of Cafe Olympic.
“Without you we’d be nothing. We have seen your children grow up the last 21 years as you have watched our kids grow up!” according to the post. “They were extremely lucky to grow up in the Café with such wonderful people! Thank you to The City of Crystal Lake and (downtown) Crystal Lake for welcoming us 21 years ago.”
The Facebook post invited the public to come Monday for cake and to “share some memories.”
“It’s not goodbye, but see you soon!” they wrote.
The owner of the cafe was not available for comment.
According to the restaurants’ website, the owners bought the restaurant in 1998 and serve classic “American diner” fare.
