Fleeing driver crashed into light pole: cops

A 23-year-old man wanted on several arrest warrants tried to outrun the law after committing traffic violations, but ended up crashing into a light pole, police said.

About 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, officers saw a car driven by Ahmad A. Parks commit a traffic violation while driving east on Marion Street at Wheeler Avenue, Joliet police Sgt. Christopher Botzum said in an email.

The officers tried to pull Park’s car over, but he refused to do so, Botzum said.

Parks continued to commit several more traffic violations while the officers pursued him, Botzum said. Parks then struck a light pole at Washington Street and Hunter Avenue, he said.

Botzum said Parks fled from the vehicle and the officers chased him until they were able to pin him to the ground a short distance away.

Parks was taken into custody after a brief struggle, Botzum said.

About 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, he was taken to the Will County jail, where he is being held on a $250,000 bond. He’ll need to post $25,000 in order to be released.

Parks had several active warrants for his arrest, Botzum said.

He was charged July 11 with unlawful delivery of hydrocodone, a pain medicine.

He also was charged Aug. 14 with unlawful delivery of between 1 to
15 grams of fentanyl and heroin, according to court records.

Parks has a pending battery case from March 26. He was charged with striking a man in the face, court records said.
