The parents of man who was killed in a motorcycle crash in Joliet have filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against a woman they claim caused the incident, according to court records.
The mother and father of Austin P. Hoard, 22, filed the lawsuit in Will County court July 23. Hoard died May 25 after suffering injuries from a motorcycle crash, according to his obituary.
The lawsuit alleges that Adryanna Taylor was driving her mother's silver 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier shortly after
9 p.m. May 24.
Taylor was attempting to exit the parking lot of Hooter’s restaurant on Hennepin Drive in Joliet while Hoard was driving his black 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle west on the same street, the lawsuit alleges.
The lawsuit claims Taylor “abruptly” made a left-hand turn “directly in front of all westbound traffic” on Hennepin Drive, and Hoard took “emergency evasive actions” to avoid colliding with her car.
However, Hoard was “unable to avoid violently colliding” with Taylor’s car, and he was thrown from his motorcycle after the two vehicles collided, the lawsuit said.
Hoard was taken to Amita Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet and then Loyola Medical Center in Maywood for treatment.
On May 25, he died as a result of his injuries from the crash, the lawsuit said.
Hoard’s parents claim in the lawsuit that Taylor was negligent in the crash, and her mother is liable because Taylor was a “young” and “inexperienced driver” who was driving the car on a learner’s permit.
A call to the parents’ attorney, Michael Lichner, was not immediately returned Friday.
