Construction continues on the latest building to be added to Ottawa's downtown.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on July 10th for the Anthony Place Ottawa Senior Apartments at 727 Clinton Street, directly across from City Hall.
Construction is expected to be completed in spring.
Anthony Place Ottawa will consist of 56 units of affordable senior housing with 42 one-bedroom and 14 two-bedroom units.
These apartments will be age-restricted to those more than 54 years of age and include indoor and outdoor parking, common gathering areas such as a community room with a kitchen as well as a gym, library and crafts room.
Twelve units will be reserved for those making 30% or below the area median income (AMI). Nine of those 12 units will serve senior with disabilities, those experiencing homelessness, or at risk of homelessness who are referred to the development via Statewide Referral Network. Thirteen units will be for those making 50% or below the AMI and the remaining 31 units will serve seniors with incomes 60% or below the AMI.
Mayor Dan Aussem said in a press release he's grateful that GC Housing Development and Cran Construction chose to construct the building in downtown Ottawa.
"It is my hope that their experience in Ottawa will lead to future investment in our city to address the need for additional affordable housing for all ages," he added.
The property is named after Anthony Grande, the beloved father of Ralph Grande, co-developer of Anthony Place Ottawa, who passed away in 2014.
