Romeoville carnival 'Romeofest' set for Aug. 1-4

The village of Romeoville’s annual Romeofest is set to take place again at the beginning of August.

The carnival is scheduled to take place from Aug. 1 to 4 with rides, games, multiple food and craft vendors, live music and more. Attendees will be able to take part in a variety of events such as a food fest 1-mile race, bingo, a men’s softball tournament, an adult bean bag tournament, a car show and fireworks.

Romeofest also will feature food booths and a beverage garden open throughout each day of the carnival. Kids and parents will be able to enjoy the family fun zone, where there will be several shows, laser tag, photo opportunities with characters, face painting and more.

The live entertainment on the main stage will include a number of bands such as American English, a Beatles tribute band; Hi Infidelity; Jose Valdes & The Mambo All Stars; and Rockstar Rodeo, among others.

Local talent also will have a chance to perform during “Romeoville’s Rising Stars” from noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 3. Those ages 5 through 17 can participate for free. Registration is required by July 19 with the Romeoville Recreation Department. The top two overall performers will win stage time at the final Rockin’ the Ville concert on Aug. 22. Talent can include, but is not limited to, singing, dancing, playing an instrument, performing a skit, magic tricks or juggling.

Carnival entrance fees are in effect each day from 5 p.m. to closing time. There are no charges to enter any other area of the fest. Kids 10 and younger, families with children and parents and seniors get in free. Individuals 11 and older pay $5 to enter.

Mega passes are now available to buy until July 31 at the Romeoville Recreation Center, located at 900 W. Romeo Road, during regular business hours.

The recreation center is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekends.

Passes cost $50 if paid for in cash and $53 if paid by a credit or debit card. Mega passes also can be bought during Romeofest for $55, through cash only.

Daily wristbands also will be available to buy for $30, cash only, during the carnival, for unlimited rides on the day of purchase.

Shuttle bus services will be available throughout the village, at the Carillon Club House, Grand Haven, Irene King Elementary School, Kenneth Hermansen Elementary School, RC Hill Elementary School, Romeoville High School and Volunteer Park.

The shuttle bus services will be available from 6 p.m. to midnight Aug. 2 and 3 and from 5 to 10:30 p.m Aug. 4. Riders 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
