ST. CHARLES TOWNSHIP – A Bartlett man has been sent to prison for stealing more than $75,000 from his employer, a Geneva attorney, according to a news release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
After a June 20 sentencing hearing, Kane County Circuit Judge Clint Hull sentenced Franco Morrone, 39, to 4 1/2 years imprisonment and payment of $75,742.64 in restitution within five years of his release from prison.
Morrone pleaded guilty March 21 to identity theft and theft, both felonies.
Kane County Assistant State's Attorneys Kelli Schmidt and Sarah Seberger said that between February 2016 and March 2017, Morrone opened a credit card in the name of his employer and used it to make more than $75,000 worth of purchases for personal use, then transferred money from his employer's bank account to pay the credit card balance.
According to Illinois law, Morrone is eligible for day-for-day sentencing.
Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon stated in the release that this crime “illustrates Mr. Morrone's greed.”
“He was hired into a position of trust and was well paid, but immediately abused that trust for his own personal gain,” McMahon stated. “It is important to hold people accountable for the damage that these thefts cause to people's lives."
