Kish Hospital to bring in neurosurgery clinic

On-site appointments with neurologist now available

DeKALB – DeKalb County residents will now be able to schedule on-site appointments with a world-class neurosurgeon.

Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital is establishing a neurosurgery clinic and expanding neurosurgical services to offer appointments with Andrew Chenelle, chief of neurosurgery for Northwestern Medicine’s west region and a Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine health system clinician who has more than 18-years of experience in minimally invasive spine surgery.

The new clinic, located in the Kishwaukee Hospital Medical Office Building, provides a convenient location for brain and spine surgery patients to receive consultations and pre- and post-operative care, according to a Northwestern Medicine news release. Surgeries will be performed at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.

The addition of the new clinic brings another component of the Northwestern Medicine Integrated Spine Program to Kishwaukee Hospital. Jerome Kolavo, orthopaedic surgery and spine surgery, and William David Smith, chiropractic medicine, will work with physical therapists and orthopaedic-trained nurses to care for back, neck and spine conditions including nonsurgical and surgical treatment options.

“My philosophy for spine surgery is less is more,” Chenelle said. “By reducing post-operative discomfort and recovery time our patient can get back to normal activity sooner.”
