Buggin' out: Aaron's moving down the road, to old Fashion Bug site

STERLING – Aaron’s has hauled furniture and appliances to local customers from its spot in the Goodwill shopping center for 14 years, and soon it will load up such for its own transport 2 miles away.

The retailer is having a moving sale at 2214 E. Lincolnway until July 9, before it moves into a Pine Tree Plaza space last occupied by Fashion Bug at 4311 E. Lincolnway, Suite E, between Dollar Tree and the former Staples.

Mike Ceruzzi, vice president of Watershed Development Corp., which owns Aaron’s locations in Illinois and Iowa, looks forward to more parking for his customers and easier rearranging of items with a polished concrete floor, part of a newer, fresher look.

“It’s time for a change,” Ceruzzi said. “We’d like our product to be as fresh as possible when we open the new store.”

Ceruzzi, who signed a lease in March, said there’s no issues with the current location.

Most of the interior construction, painting and wiring at its new location is done.

Aaron’s will be the second business to move to the plaza east of Walmart this year: Wesley’s Kiddie City opened in April.

The plaza was bought by Sterling businessman Kristopher Kyarsgaard, 41, in September 2017. He also is the owner of SKR Rentals, which also owns the storage facility across the road, at 4505 E. Lincolnway.

In addition to Fashion Bug, the shopping center once was home to a Staples, Radio Shack, and Payless Shoe Store, among others.

Remaining are a Dollar Tree, Game Stop and Sally Beauty, among others.
