Police: Bolingbrook man carried revolver in backpack

A 19-year-old man kept a loaded revolver inside a backpack and caught the attention of officers when he was sitting in a car parked in front of a fire hydrant, police said.

About 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers were on foot patrol in he 400 block of Mallview Drive when they saw an occupied Jeep unlawfully parked in front of a fire hydrant, Bolingbrook police Lt. Anthony Columbus said in an email.

When the officers made contact with the people inside the car, they detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the Jeep, Columbus said.

Officers noticed one of the passengers, Kevin Alcocer of Bolingbrook, appeared to be “extremely nervous,” he said, adding that Alcocer also had a backpack between his legs.

Alcocer then made a quick exit from the Jeep, grabbed the backpack and ran from the officers, Columbus said.

Alcocer later was caught by the officers and refused to comply with them by struggling, Columbus said. After Alcocer was taken into custody, officers found a loaded .38-caliber revolver inside the backpack, he said.

Alcocer was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a firearm without a valid owner’s identification card.

He was taken to the Will County jail and was scheduled to appear for a court hearing on his bond at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
