Dr. Harshavadan J. Vyas delivered his 6000th baby on March 16, a milestone he is celebrating by providing the child with a $6,000 scholarship in celebration of life and career.
Brian Moline is the son of Laura and Brian, an Ottawa family who already has two older daughters. Laura and baby Brian were in attendance Thursday as her husband had to work and their daughters had school.
“We’re very excited and Dr. Vyas is wonderful,” Moline said. “He took care of us and made everyone comfortable; everything went great and we’re so happy.”
Brian woke up while his mother was speaking and seemed confused as to his surroundings, mean-mugging Dr. Vyas and Edward Jones broker Kim Krueger before letting out a big yawn and falling back asleep.
Vyas has been delivering babies for 29 years and he has previously pledged scholarships for the children he’s delivered on other milestones – his 5,000th baby delivered in 2015 received a $5,000 scholarship.
Broker Bob Paglis has been handling the accounts since Vyas started doing the scholarships for his milestone babies.
“He’s just the best and this is a really impressive milestone,” Paglis said. “I’m proud to have helped out with this and I’m really glad to be handing this off to Kim.”
Paglis is retiring from Edward Jones and attended because of his excitement for the scholarships.
Vyas has been delivering babies at OSF St. Elizabeth in Ottawa since 1990 and has delivered the babies of babies he delivered when he first started.
He plans to continue his service at the hospital but he didn’t name a goal of how many babies he hopes to deliver, only that he loves his job.
