BREAKING: Malfunctioning fire alarm prompts early dismissal at OHS

Thursday, May 16, proved an eventful and short day at Oswego High School.

At 12:12 p.m. the Oswego School District 308 sent an email t OHS parents and parents at the district's other schools that students and staff would be taking shelter in their respective buildings due to an active tornado warning.

"Students and staff will remain sheltered until the warning has expired," the email read.

After the storm had passed, the district sent another email notice to OHS parents at 1:57 p.m. announcing that students would be released early for the day due to a malfunctioning fire alarm.

The email read: "A fire alarm was initiated in our building this afternoon. After a quick response from the Oswego Fire Department, it was determined the building was safe. However, in one area of the building the alarm could not be reset; a service provider is on the way.

"For the safety of our students, with lightning outdoors and loud noise indoors we are initiating an early release. Students who drove are being released to leave now, buses are on the way now. There are areas of the building where students can safely remain until they are able to be picked up, where the alarm is not sounding."
