A Plainfield resident, Jaime Montenegro, 30, of the 1800 block of Mystic Drive was sentenced to a 10 year term in state prison last week on a charge of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.
The sentence was handed down at the Kendall County Courthouse in Yorkville by 23rd Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Robert Pilmer.
Montenegro’s arrest and conviction stem from an incident involving a minor child that occurred in June 2016, according to the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office.
While awaiting trial, Montenegro was arrested last December in Will County for distribution, reproduction and possession of child pornography. Those charges are currently pending and Montenegro remains in custody at the Will County Jail in Joliet.
In a statement, State’s Attorney Eric Weis noted that Montenegro will have to serve a term of three years to natural life of mandatory supervised release.
In addition, he must serve at least 85% of his sentence before being eligible for mandatory supervised release pursuant to the Truth-In-Sentencing provisions.
Additionally, any sentence imposed in Will County on Montenegro will be required to be served consecutively (back-to-back). Finally, Montenegro will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
Weis described the victim and victim’s family as “extremely satisfied with the outcome of this case” and they thanked his office for its efforts.
“Crimes against young children have devastating impacts on both the victim and the victim’s family,” Weis said. “In this case, the minor child had the courage to immediately report this terrible event to an adult. Her efforts helped to ensure that a child sex offender is locked away from society for a long time. She should be commended for her bravery.”
State’s Attorney Weis prosecuted the case. Attorney Charles Rea represented Montenegro.
