Flooding causes problems in Plainfield, Shorewood

Heavy rains this week led to flooded roads in several places Wednesday morning.

In Plainfield, 127th Street was closed west of Route 59 near the Walmart store, one of a number of spots in the village with water on the road. Other major roads with flooding were Renwick and County Line roads.

Joliet closed a section of County Line Road in the morning but reopened it by 1 p.m. Another quarter-mile section of Caton Farm Road was narrowed to two lanes for part of the day.

A rising DuPage River created problems in some areas of Plainfield and Shorewood.

“Some homes in Shorewood have yards that are high in water near the DuPage River,” said Harold Damron, director of the Will County Emergency Agency.

Both the DuPage and Kankakee rivers were rising because of the heavy rains this week, but not to the point that they posed a threat of evacuation, Damron said.

Plainfield Fire Chief Jon Stratton said Lily Cache Lane remained flooded near Caton Farm Road late Wednesday morning.

Other trouble spots in Plainfield were County Line Road at several locations north of Caton Farm, Renwick east of County Line Road, 127th Street east of Ridge, and Maybrook Drive.

Shorewood Police Chief Aaron Klima said only a few homes in low-lying areas were affected. A section of the Interstate 55 West Frontage Road was closed, he said. Rural sections of Black Road had water on the pavement, but the road was open.

The Grundy County Emergency Management Agency is warning residents that the Illinois River is expected to experience major flooding. The National Weather Service expects the river to rise to 24 feet by
2 p.m. Thursday in Morris.
