SYCAMORE – A DeKalb resident was arrested Wednesday in connection with the theft of a 55-inch TV from an apartment in August.
Andrew J. Perrin, 22, of the 1300 block of North Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb is being charged with theft of property valued at more than $500, a Class 3 felony. Perrin goes by the first name Andrea. If convicted, she could face up to 5 years in prison.
Police received a theft report of a 55-inch Vizio TV on Aug. 18 from an apartment in the 800 block of Regent Drive in DeKalb, according to court documents. The victim said she moved out in May 2018 but left her belongings in her basement bedroom with a locked door until Aug. 18, which was the date that her lease ended.
A Vizio representative said on Oct. 18 that a TV with the same serial number as the victim’s TV was used online, and the IP address was traced back to a TV using Comcast internet in DeKalb, court documents said. Police issued subpoena requests for the IP address, which yielded Perrin’s name and address, court documents said.
Officers went to the location and arrested Perrin at 10:43 p.m. Wednesday. She was taken to DeKalb County jail, according to a sheriff’s office news release. Perrin admitted to taking the TV from the Regent Drive address in August after breaking into the home when no one was around, court documents said.
DeKalb County Judge Philip Montgomery set bail for Perrin on Monday for $5,000. She has since posted $500 bail and was released.
