Woodstock OKs $2K for Cesaroni's outdoor dining project

The Woodstock City Council has agreed to give Cesaroni’s Cafe and Deli $2,000 toward an outdoor seating space.

Brad and Brandon Cesaroni applied for the funds through the city’s facade improvement program, which aims to assist business owners with the cost of completing improvements to properties. The two want to install brick pavers to an area in front of the cafe. Once the project is complete, the restaurant will offer outdoor seating, according to city documents.

Cesaroni's opened in February at 236 Main St., near the historic Square. Woodstock previously has given the business a facade grant of $5,900 for a new window as part of extensive building renovations, according to city documents.

Typically, the program funds about 50% of a project’s total cost. The Cesaronis estimate the project will cost $4,132, according to city documents.

The city budget includes $10,000 to go toward the facade improvement program, but that has been spent, according to city documents. The cafe is located in the tax increment finance district, according to city documents.

Funding for the facade improvement program in general comes from revenues generated by the TIF, and the city will pay for the project with TIF funds because all of the facade improvement money has been spent, City Manager Roscoe Stelford said.

The program is a reimbursement program, which means the city only pays after the successful completion of a project.

Money from the facade improvement program can only go toward properties in the TIF district for projects that are visible from the public right of way, according to city documents.

Woodstock City Council member Mike Turner said he thought the project would benefit the city as well as the business because it will improve the aesthetics of the site.

“I like the plan,” Turner said. “I talked to the folks at Cesaroni’s, and they are pleased, as well. It’s a win for everybody.”

Cesaroni’s will pay the city $100 a year to use the space once it’s complete. It will be built in the landscaped “bump out” area in front of the deli.

Cesaroni’s Deli and Cafe offers coffee, tea, smoothies and breakfast and lunch items such as paninis, salads, deli and breakfast sandwiches. The restaurant is open 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
