European grocery store could be headed to Algonquin

Deli 4 You specializes in fine European products, baked goods and meats

Algonquin could soon be home to a new grocery store specializing in fine European products.

The Committee of the Whole of the Algonquin Village Board will decide whether to recommend approval of a Deli 4 You on Tuesday night. It meets at 7:45 p.m. at the Ganek Municipal Center, 2200 Harnish Drive.

If approved, the store would be built on a vacant lot at 1601 S. Randall Road. The lot is north of Bowlero, according to village documents.

“The village is very excited that they’re going to be opening a location here in Algonquin,” said senior planner Ben Mason. “It will have approximately 17,000 square feet for the grocery, and there will also be a significant deli component. It will be a great addition to the options for grocery and meats in the community. The village is very excited.”

Mason said Piotr Filipek owns three other stores in Schaumburg, Norridge and Prospect Heights. He submitted a petition for a final planned unit development permit.

The Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended approval.

“We are so excited to share that we will be starting the construction of our new and highly anticipated location in Algonquin very soon!” according to a message posted on the company’s homepage. “Thank you everyone for being patient with us – we cannot wait to be a part of the Algonquin neighborhood.”

The stores include full-service bakeries with pastries and breads that are made from fresh, natural ingredients. They also sell ready-to-eat meals, packaged treats and smoked fish.

“We believe that food is more than fuel – it engages the senses, inspires the imagination and nourishes the gatherings of family and friends. To us, food is an experience and we are lucky to be able to share our passion for this experience with you,” according to the website.

Deli 4 You offers ingredients and products from mostly eastern European countries including Russia, Poland, Ukraine and Germany.

The stores also cater corporate and social events for up to 200 people.

“It’s fantastic,” said village President John Schmitt. “I love good Polish delis. I’m very excited, genuinely excited for it coming to town. ... This is a good thing. It’s really great when we get new, interesting businesses in town.”
