Police: Sycamore man faces charges after choking partner during sex

SYCAMORE – A Sycamore man accused of biting and choking his girlfriend during sex and refusing to stop when she told him to is being held on $50,000 bond.

Ryan T. DeCoster, 24, of the 1100 block of Arneita Street, has been charged with aggravated domestic battery and, if convicted, could be sentenced to three to seven years in prison.

The victim told police about 1:30 a.m. Sunday that DeCoster had bitten her while they were having sex, which had started out consensual, but when she told him she didn’t want to have sex anymore, he choked her to the point she couldn’t breathe, court records show.

DeCoster told police he and his girlfriend regularly had “rough sex,” and while he admitted he bit her too hard this time, he was drunk and didn’t remember whether he’d choked her.

DeKalb County Judge Philip Montgomery said DeCoster has two previous felony convictions, one for burglary and another for possession of a weapon, so he set bond at $50,000 after asking DeCoster whether he could come up with $5,000 bail.

“Your honor, I don’t have $10 to my name,” DeCoster said.

If he is released, he’ll be placed on electronic home monitoring and be forbidden to contact the victim.

He’s due back in court at 9 a.m. Thursday for a hearing on a motion to reduce bond filed by Public Defender Tom McCulloch.
