A husband and wife from Crystal Lake have pleaded guilty in federal court to a series of bank robberies in northern Illinois.

On Friday, Daniel R. Plushkis, 27, pleaded guilty to three counts of bank robbery and, as part of a plea agreement, admitted to two other bank robberies. His wife, Jessica E. Plushkis, 29, pleaded guilty earlier this month to two counts of aiding and abetting a bank robbery, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

As part of Daniel Plushkis’ written plea agreement, he admitted to committing a string of five bank robberies in December 2017 in northern Illinois, which according to the release included:

• Chase Bank, 300 Route 14 in Cary: On Dec. 1, 2017, Daniel Plushkis entered the bank wearing a long fake beard, a hooded black jacket, a camouflage hat and sunglasses. He handed a teller an envelope with a note on it saying he had a gun and began counting down from 30. The teller put $5,870 from the bank’s cash into the envelope, and the robber fled.

• TCF Bank, 13200 Village Green Drive in Huntley: On Dec. 10, 2017, Daniel Plushkis wore a similar disguise and handed the teller an envelope with a note taped to it. The couple got away with $237 cash.

• TCF Bank, 1860 S. Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights: As part of Jessica Plushkis’ written plea agreement, she admitted that she bought a fake beard, black-colored hair spray and black face paint for Daniel Plushkis a few hours before the Dec. 13 robbery, knowing that her husband intended to use those items as part of his disguise for the robbery. They got away with $2,676 in cash.

• TCF Bank, 217 E. Irving Park Road in Streamwood: On Dec. 20, Daniel Plushkis wore a similar disguise with the long fake beard. He fled with $500.

• TCF Bank, 103 S. Randall Road in Algonquin: On Dec. 23, 2017, the couple helped each other commit the robbery, which yielded $4,350 in cash. Daniel Plushkis fled the property and headed toward the car where his wife was waiting for him. Before he could get in the vehicle, a private citizen apprehended him in the parking lot. Jessica Plushkis admitted that after her husband was apprehended, she drove out of the parking lot to avoid being caught by law enforcement, but she was pulled over as she exited the parking lot.

Daniel and Jessica Plushkis face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for each of the charges they pleaded guilty to, according to the release.

Sentencing for Jessica Plushkis is set for May 28, and sentencing for Daniel Plushkis is set for June 25.
