Police: Joliet woman charged with battery, property damage

A 27-year-old Joliet woman was arrested on charges of domestic battery and criminal damage to property.

Shortly after 3 a.m. on Thursday, Destiny Kalata, 27, of the 3600 block of Shannon Court was arrested in the 3900 block of Squire’s Mill Road on charges of domestic battery and criminal damage to property.

Following her arrest, Kalata was booked into the Will County jail.

Joliet police Sgt. Chris Botzum did not respond to an inquiry on Kalata’s arrest. Messages and calls to Joliet Deputy Police Chief Darrell Gavin were not returned.

On Oct. 17, 2016, Kalata pleaded guilty to driving on a suspended license. Prosecutors dropped another charge of driving between 15 to 20 mph above the speed limit.

Kalata was sentenced to two years or court supervision and and ordered to complete 50 hours of public service. She failed to comply with her sentence and failed to appear in court when a warrant was issued for her arrest, according to court records.

On July 13, 2017, a Will County judge re-sentenced Kalata. She was fined $400, along with $75 for failing to appear in court.

On July 26, 2017, a letter was sent to Kalata that stated she failed to make payments in her court case. Her fees and fines were increased to $628 as a result.

On Sept. 13, 2010, Kalata was charged with driving 15 to 20 mph above the speed limit.

She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months court supervision, fined $75 and ordered to attend a traffic driver safety program.
