SYCAMORE – A DeKalb teen accused of luring a child younger than 13 to come to town and have sex with him has been released from jail on his signature.
Cody L. Osborne, 18, of the 900 block of South 10th Street in DeKalb, has been charged with indecent solicitation of a child, punishable by four to 15 years in prison. He also had been charged with traveling to meet a minor.
Police said in court records that detectives from the South Bend Police Department in Indiana contacted the DeKalb Police Department, alerting them that a child had gotten explicit photos from Osborne. DeKalb police then set up an online sting, arranging a meeting with Osborne at a bridge near the 400 block of Clifford Drive. He confessed to officers that he’d hoped to have sex with the child, and was arrested.
Assistant State’s Attorney Brooks Locke asked for bond to be set at $50,000. He said more charges could be coming, regarding photos on Osborne’s phone. He said Osborne also said he baby-sits for families, and that he confessed that when he had an 8-year-old on his lap, he was sexually aroused.
DeKalb County Judge Philip Montgomery ordered Osborne be released on his signature. He barred Osborne contact with children, and that he also not be allowed to access the internet. Osborne said he lives with his grandmother at the 10th Street address, and she said in court that she doesn’t have internet access. Osborne told Montgomery police had seized both his phone and his tablet.
Osborne is due back in court at 9 a.m. Feb. 15.
