Police: Berwyn man charged with DUI in connection with fatal Will County crash

A Berwyn man was arrested in connection with the death of an Addison man who died after his car collided with another Monday in the Will County portion of Woodridge, authorities said.

About 3 a.m. Tuesday, Pablo E. Perez, 30, of the 1500 block of South Harvey Avenue, Berwyn, was taken to the Will County jail on charges of driving under the influence and aggravated DUI causing bodily harm in connection with the death of Zachary Perry, 28, of Addison.

Perry was pronounced dead at 5:43 p.m. Monday at the intersection of South Joliet Road and Davey Road in Woodridge.

Woodridge police said in a news release that officers responded to a car crash about 4 p.m. Monday. A preliminary investigation indicated “excessive speed and alcohol may have contributed to this crash,” police said.

The collision involved a light-duty box truck and two passenger vehicles, police said. The crash resulted in Perry’s death, and Perez was taken to a hospital.

Perez was taken to jail on a $3,000 bond. He later posted 10 percent of his bond, and he was released about 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Woodridge police continue to investigate the incident. The Felony Investigative Assistance Team is assisting with accident reconstruction. Officers from Bolingbrook, Romeoville and the Illinois State Police also assisted.

An autopsy completed Tuesday revealed Perry suffered multiple injuries because of a motor vehicle collision. The final cause and manner of death will be determined later.
