WHY HE WAS SELECTED:

Willowbrook senior guard Matas Masys had 25 points and six assists in the Warriors' 69-65 win over Metea Valley.

Masys talked to Suburban Life sports editor Joshua Welge about the game, and the Warriors' start to the season Here is an edited version of the transcript:

Welge: How were you guys able to pull out the win?

Masys: It all started with our defensive energy. We didn't start the way we should have. We knew we had to pick up the pace and play our style, which is up-tempo, shooting 3s, transition. We did a good job of that in the second half.

Welge: How do you feel about the start to the season?

Masys: I think it's been a good start. It took a while for this group of guys to get used to each other. We graduated a lot of seniors. I think we are jelling together. I hope we can make a deep playoff run, make a run at a conference championship.

Welge: How is this year's team different?

Masys: Our coach always says we aren't the tallest team, but we can be the fastest and work the hardest. We've picked up the pace, force a lot of turnovers.

Welge: How is your recruiting going?

Masys: I'm looking at a variety of schools. DIII all over the place, some of the bigger ones are MIT, WashU and Augustana. DIIs like Hillsdale, and I've talked to a couple Ivy League schools, Cornell and Brown [he has a 4.7 GPA]. I'm going to wait for my senior season to end to make a decision.

Welge: What's your thoughts on the immediate future? You're at the Hinsdale Central tournament after Christmas.

Masys: We have three big games this week. It's our first time at Hinsdale Central. We want to prove that we can compete with anybody.
