Joe’s Beverage Warehouse, the Joliet-based craft beer, wine and liquor store, plans to expand its beer operation to Romeoville by March.
The 10,620-square-foot store will be north of Route 53 and Romeo Road.
“We were successful and we like what we’re doing,” Joe’s G.M. Ammar Sheikah said. “We have the manpower and it would be fun to build our own brand.”
Josh Potter, community development director for the village, said the village was excited to find them a spot after years of searching for the right location. Joe's will add the the growing list of Romeoville-based craft beer destinations behind Iron&Glass Taproom & Bottleshop and Metal Monkey Brewing.
"We're excited to have those establishments in the community," Potter said.
The former Cardinal Liquor Depot on Jefferson Street, which opened in 2004, changed its name to Joe's Beverage Warehouse six months ago to set itself apart from the other suburban and Chicago Cardinal locations.
The beverage warehouse continued to set itself apart from other liquor stores in the area by collaborating with local breweries like Metal Monkey and Joliet’s MyGrain Brewing to create unique craft beer.
"As soon as MyGrain opened up (in 2016), we said, 'We have to make a collaboration with you guys,'" said Sheikah. "Let's change things up in Joliet because no one else is doing this. We have the market for it."
The beverage warehouse is collaborating with MyGrain again this year to produce an Imperial Stout, as well as two other beers with other Chicagoland breweries.
