Police: Joliet man had hundreds of child porn images on laptop

A Joliet man was arrested after Illinois State Police found hundreds of child pornography images on his computer laptop, police said.

About 11 a.m. Thursday, Jared M. Prokuski, 22, of the 2600 block of Par Four Lane was arrested and charged with three counts of child pornography. Each count is a Class 2 felony that is punishable between three to seven years in prison if convicted.

The case was based on a tip to the state police, Illinois Police Master Sgt. Patrick Callaghan said.

He said the police were tipped sometime in the past two months and began an investigation that involved filing subpoenas for internet protocol, or IP, addresses that were allegedly connected to Prokuski.

State police were able to obtain a search warrant and executed it at Prokuski’s address on Thursday, Callaghan said. Based on their search, they allegedly found that Prokuski had hundreds, if not thousands, of child pornography images on his laptop, he said.

A Will County State’s Attorney’s Office police dog named Cache was on the scene to sniff out electronic devices not visible to the officers, he said.

The Illinois Attorney General’s Office also had personnel present for the search, Callaghan said.

Prokuski was scheduled to appear in court Friday.
