Lincoln-Way teacher receives award

Lincoln-Way East teacher Kevin McCleish recently received the Frederick D. Drake History Teacher Alumni Award from Illinois State University.

This annual award goes to an alumnus that best emulates Drake’s teaching excellence. McCleish was honored at ISU’s Alumni Day as part of its Homecoming Week. He attended a reception with other distinguished alumni hosted by the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, along with a luncheon honoring all university-wide alumni.

McCleish has been with Lincoln-Way for 11 years and currently teaches AP Comparative Government and Politics, AP U.S. Government and Politics, and History of the World Wars. He is also Lincoln-Way Education Association Political Action Committee chair.

He received his bachelor’s degree in history education from ISU in 2008 and was a recipient of the Gleynafa T. Ray Award and Lawrence W. McBride Award.

McCleish received an master's in history from Chicago State University in 2012 and an master's in political and justice studies from Governors State University in 2017.
