Shoppers lined up outside of the Aldi store at 1610 Bridge Street in Yorkville early on the morning of Oct. 11 as store officials and employees held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the store's expansion and an extensive remodeling.
"This has been our home for about 25 years...it's so fantastic," said Heather Moore, an Aldi division vice president.
About 2,400 square feet were added to the store just north of Route 34 as part of the project, as well as about 120 new products; including several healthier, gluten-free options.
"We have a huge following, and a lot of people want different products," Moore said. "With this remodel, we can do that...we've got a lot more of those things that we can offer."
According to Moore, the changes to the Yorkville location are part of $180 million in renovations underway to Aldi stores throughout the Chicagoland region. By the end of 2020 about 130 stores in the area will be remodeled.
"The important thing is the prices are the same as they've always been," she said.
