Second Starbucks location to open in Woodstock

Location will be city’s 2nd Starbucks

Woodstock soon will be home to a new Starbucks.

The coffee shop will open in the coming weeks in a new shopping center at Route 14 and Lake Avenue, just west of Blain’s Farm and Fleet at 11501 Route 14.

This will be the city’s second such establishment, and it’s about 3 miles from the other Starbucks at 129 E. Van Buren St.

“They are already beginning the interior build-out as well as the signage,” said Garrett Anderson, the city’s economic development director. “They’ve already submitted their permitting and picked it up to complete the build-out.”

Anderson said he expects the new location to perform just as well as the first Starbucks, which sits in the city’s historic square.

The opening date has not yet been announced, Anderson said. The exact address has not been determined. It will have a drive-thru, a perk the city’s other Starbucks doesn’t have.

The company already is seeking part-time and full-time baristas, and flyers have been posted in other area stores and on local job boards.

“It’s a really good site,” Anderson said. “It’s right on Highway 14 on the outbound side of the street. ... A lot of the commuters who do leave Woodstock in the morning to go to work take Highway 14 to head south and east toward Crystal Lake and other destinations. For that morning commute, I think it’s going to be a very successful location.”

The McHenry County area already boasts a handful of Starbucks locations throughout Crystal Lake, McHenry, Algonquin, Cary and Lake in the Hills.

Anderson said the new Starbucks will be housed in a complex with five other businesses, including Aspen Dental, Bank of America and Sport Clips Haircuts.

“It’s coming along,” he said.

Starbucks wasn’t immediately available for comment Monday.

Founded in 1971 in Seattle, the company experienced an explosion of growth during the 1990s and 2000s. The company now boasts more than 28,000 retail stores in 77 markets.
