Trike-A-Thon raises money for St. Jude Hospital

GENOA – The children at Walnut Street Daycare in Genoa raised $4,700.88 for sick children at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at the center’s fourth annual Trike-A-Thon.

This makes the total contributions from all four years at $17,168.39.

The children at Walnut Street are between the ages of 6 months and 5 years old, and they all rode their bikes, some in strollers, around in the parking lot for about 30 minutes to raise the money for St. Jude’s.

“I feel like the children really understood the concept of getting money to help kids who are sick, really sick,” Sarah Sundquist, coordinator of the Trike-A-Thon, said in a news release. “This kept them motivated to ride the entire time.”

Not only did the kids help raise money, they also learned about tricycle safety. DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy Misty Odom, a parent of one of the top fundraisers, spoke to the children about being safe while riding.
