New businesses coming to Crystal Lake shopping centers

T.J. Maxx is moving; new establishment in the works

Big changes are coming to Country Corners Shopping Center and Crystal Point Mall.

The Country Corners complex soon will lose its T.J. Maxx discount retailer. The store is moving a mile west to nearby Crystal Point Mall and will open Oct. 11.

The estimated 23,000-square-foot space at Crystal Point is a slightly smaller store than the one the company currently operates at 230 W. Virginia St., according to city documents.

Crystal Point also is home to a new Ulta Beauty store, which opened last month at the center, 6000 Route 14. Ulta and T.J. Maxx will occupy the former Sports Authority space after it was split into two facilities.

Crystal Point also is going to get a Steinhafels furniture superstore to replace and improve the former Kmart space.

At Country Corners, Jennifer Falbo owns Pablo’s Mexican Restaurant, which is next door to T.J. Maxx.

Falbo, who is struggling to keep her restaurant open, said she worries she’ll lose customers when T.J. Maxx leaves.

The iconic restaurant, 230 W. Virginia St., Suite 300, could close if customers don’t return.

A few doors down from Pablo’s, a vacant space has posters in its windows for a Ding Tea, Pho Royal eatery and LT Nail Lounge.

The posters announce the new establishments are “coming soon.”
