Police: Ex-convict arrested, charged with torching stolen car

Romeoville man out of prison for just over a year

An ex-convict out of prison for about a year was arrested Tuesday and charged with torching a stolen car.

Darrius Ferguson, 24, was arrested by the Romeoville police and booked into the Will County jail about 10 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of arson.

Ferguson, a resident of the 300 block of Aster Court in Romeoville, also was charged with violating his parole.

The car Ferguson was charged with setting fire to was stolen Aug. 10 from outside Mickey’s Grille & Pub on Budler Road in Romeoville, Romeoville Police Chief Mark Turvey said.

The stolen car was found burned in Plainfield, Turvey said.

The arson charge was filed against Ferguson the day after he was taken into custody, according to Will County court records.

Ferguson appeared in court Wednesday, and a public defender was assigned to his case.

During his court hearing Wednesday, Ferguson's bond was set at
$3 million.

Ferguson had been released from Stateville Correctional Center
on June 30, 2017, the same day he arrived at the prison, according to Illinois Department of Corrections records.

Ferguson had been sentenced to
15 years in prison for conspiracy to commit murder, according to Department of Corrections records, which said he was 17 when he was charged with the 2011 crime.

Ferguson was scheduled to return to court Sept. 26.
