All lanes of eastbound Interstate 80 were closed Wednesday morning at La Grange Road after a pedestrian reportedly jumped from a bridge onto the roadway, according to an alert from the Illinois State Police.
Police responded just after 10 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a male individual who jumped from the 80th Avenue bridge in Tinley Park onto eastbound I-80, Trooper DeAnn Falat said in an email. Several cars then hit the individual.
Emad Mahmoud, 30, of Tinley Park, was initially airlifted in serious condition, but he later died. State police were investigating the incident, Falat said.
Traffic was being rerouted onto Interstate 355, according to a post on Illinois State Police District 5's Facebook page.
All lanes reopened about noon, Falat said.
