Bergner's to close Sunday

STERLING – Bergner's will be closing its doors Sunday following 4 months of liquidation sales.

The longtime retailer at 2900 E. Lincolnway in Northland Mall will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday selling what's left of store merchandise and fixtures at mark downs from 70 percent to 90 percent off.

Two liquidation firms, Great American Group and Tiger Capital Group, bought the assets of parent company The Bon-Ton Stores through a bankruptcy auction in mid-April. The company filed for bankruptcy in February, a month after announcing plans to close 42 sites.

All 212 stores will be closed by the end of this month.

Nationwide, the store closings are putting about 24,000 people out of work in 23 states. In addition to Bergner’s, The Bon-Ton Stores had operated Carson’s, Younker’s, Boston Store, Herberger’s and Elder-Beerman.
