Lincoln-Way East students establish STAR Club

In December of 2017, Lincoln-Way East juniors Megan Walsh and Sage Sasso approached Reading Department Chair Erin Venezio about a growing idea; the students wanted to create a club to provide tutoring and academic study tables for their fellow Griffins.

Venezio agreed to sponsor the students, allowing the “student to student” group to form. Student Tutor Academic Resource Club (or S.T.A.R Club) meets every Tuesday after school in the Lincoln-Way East library. In fewer than five months, the club has already grown to approximately fifty tutors, all of whom were selected by Lincoln-Way staff members.

Griffins of all grades are encouraged to utilize the club in order to receive academic assistance, ask questions and practice proper study habits. The group aims to model study tables that are seen on many college campuses.

Because of their experience in a wider range of subjects, most tutors are upperclassman, although all grade levels may participate. “STAR Club allows students the opportunity to work together and better understand class material,” says Walsh.
