A fundraiser is being held to help the surviving family and children of Rebecca Kazecki, who was allegedly beaten to death by her husband over the course of three days.

A GoFundMe was established on Monday to help offset the funeral costs and medical costs for Rebecca Kazecki, who died on Aug. 7 from head trauma, a fractured skull and bleeding on her brain. Her husband, Michael Kazecki, charged with killing her.

She is survived by her three boys, her sisters, Amanda Francis and Sara Hutchinson, and her brother, Graham Brackenrich.

The online fundraiser will also offset other mounting costs, said Nancy Thompson, a friend of Sara Hutchinson. She said the fundraiser will help ease the “shock and burden of this horrific event.”

“Any amount anyone can give is greatly appreciated. We’re just asking for prayers,” said Thompson, who is also working with Kelly Cleary on the fundraiser.

The fundraiser aims to gather $35,000 in funds and has raised $12,195 in two days as of Wednesday afternoon.

Rebecca Kazecki’s three boys have been left without parents since her death and a Will County judge ordered them to be placed in shelter care and the temporary custody of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

Assistant State's Attorney Tina Filipiak said the boys are witnesses in a criminal case against their father and argued it would not be in their best interest to be placed with his relatives.

DCFS is investigating allegations of neglect involving Michael Kazecki. The agency had contact with the Kazecki family in April in connection with allegations of neglect, which were deemed unfounded due to a lack of evidence, state officials said.

A DCFS spokeswoman said the three boys are in the agency’s protective custody.

Assistant State's Attorney Jim Long said Michael Kazecki admitted in a police interview to kicking and punching his wife. Long said Michael Kazecki was hitting his 11-year-old son when Rebecca Kazecki intervened, and he in turn beat her.

Rebecca Kazecki grew up in Crystal Lake and attended Crystal Lake South High School. Both Rebecca and Michael Kazecki are graduates of Class of 2002 at Western Illinois University.

Both of them would eventually work for Joliet Public Schools District 86 as teachers.

Rebecca Kazecki worked 14 years at Gompers Junior High School, most recently as an eighth-grade special education teacher. Michael Kazecki was with the district for 10 years, most recently as an English language arts teacher.

Rebecca Kazecki was described in her obituary as a “loving, devoted and selfless mother before anything else.” She had also “touched the lives of countless children through her many years in teaching.”

“Becky's absence on earth will be deeply felt but her spirit will remain forever in our hearts,” her obituary read.

Anne and Steve Jaenicke said on the GoFundMe page that they'll always remember Rebecca Kazecki’s “sweat demeanor and energetic outlook.”

“Our love and prayers will continue to be with all of you, especially Becky's boys,” they said.

Christine St. Germain, a District 86 teacher, said on the website that Rebecca Kazecki's death was “devastating,”

“My heart breaks for them but I hope that somehow they will make it through this with the help of loving family and friends,” she said.
