A greeter at a Meijer in Mokena struck a customer multiple times as the two were exiting the store about 6:30 p.m. Thursday night, Mokena Police Cmdr. Randy Stumpf said.
Zachary Monahan, 40, of New Lenox, thought he knew the 35-year-old customer from a previous incident from a couple years prior, Stumpf said.
Stumpf said the customer, who called police, was not injured from the incident.
"It is a little uncommon," Stumpf said. "It's a very unusual incident."
After being arrested and charged, Monahan posted bond and was released from police custody, the commander said.
An official at the Meijer, located at 11305 Lincoln Hwy., said the supercenter is not providing any information about the incident, including whether Monahan maintained his job at the store.
