A Crete man facing domestic battery and resisting a police officer charges also was arrested on probable cause of a hate crime, but prosecutors declined to pursue that charge.
Theodore J. Dufour, 47, was booked into the Will County jail Saturday. Jail records show the “charge description” of Dufour’s alleged crimes were hate crime, resisting a police officer and domestic battery.
Prosecutors chose to only pursue charges of resisting and domestic battery. Will County State’s Attorney spokesman Charles B. Pelkie said prosecutors determined only those charges to be appropriate.
Crete Police Chief James Paoletti failed to return several calls and messages regarding Dufour’s arrest. Crete Deputy Police Chief Scott Pieritz said in an email that he was not “authorized to release media information” and that it would have to come from Paoletti.
Dufour declined to comment on the charges and deferred to his attorney, Daniel Walsh. Walsh also failed to return a call for comment.
Dufour was released Monday on a $20,000 bond.
In 2010, he pleaded guilty to remaining on the land of a University Park resident after being told to leave, according to court records. In 2006, he pleaded guilty to threatening a Crest Hill resident by telephone.
In 2003, he pleaded guilty to stealing paintball equipment.
In February, Dufour, who has worked as a recovery agent, filed a federal lawsuit against several current and former Illinois Commerce Commission officials over the revocation of his recovery license.
