A Spring Valley man has started serving a term in the La Salle County Jail in connection with a fatal hit-and-run last year near Peru.

Luke Dobrich, 40, was sentenced to spend six months in jail and to pay a $10,000 fine for DUI and failing to report an accident. After his release, he is to serve two-and-a-half years' probation and do 200 hours of community service.

Dobrich was driving at dusk June 4 on Bottom Road, when he hit a bicyclist, Wyatt K. L. Wyatt, 22, Spring Valley. Dobrich left the scene and Wyatt died. Dobrich was later arrested. Bottom Road is west of Oglesby and south of Peru.
