Tool cartridge mistaken for bullet found at school

Thompson Junior High School was on a "hold in place" lockdown Wednesday morning, May 23, after what was thought to be a bullet was found at the school.

Oswego police responded to the school at approximately 9:30 a.m. for a report of a bullet found in the school, and the school was put in a "hold in place" status as a safety precaution, police said. The lockdown ended at around 10:20 a.m., School District 308 officials said.

During the investigation by police it was determined the object was a Hilti cartridge used in construction for driving pins and studs into steel and concrete, according to police.

Police said there is no threat to the school, the students or the public at this time.

Police said the investigation is continuing and School District 308 officials are assisting the department in determining how the item was brought into the school.
