Murderer originally paroled to La Grange now living in Calumet City sober house

LA GRANGE – The former Sandwich man convicted of a 1972 mass murder in Yorkville and paroled last month is now living in a sober house in Calumet City.

Carl Reimann, who was convicted in 1973 of murdering five people at a Yorkville restaurant, was paroled April 26 against the wishes of the victims' family members and officials including Kendall County State's Attorney Eric Weis and Sheriff Dwight Baird.

Reimann is listed on the Illinois State Police Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth Registry. Reimann previously had been listed on the Department of Corrections website as requiring sex offender registration, but that designation has since been removed.

According to a presentence report in Reimann's 1973 case file, Reimann was charged with "contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor child" on Sept. 8, 1966, in Aurora.

Reimann was moved to a house in La Grange, but the house was directly across the street from Seventh Avenue Elementary School, and both La Grange School District 105 and the La Grange Police Department voiced concerns about Reimann living there. Neighbors and parents also objected to the location.

Reimann's new location is a fully furnished home in the 300 block of Memorial Drive in south suburban Calumet City. The house is listed as one of five locations for the Elite Houses of Sober Living organization, according to the organization's website.

The website states the program offers transitional housing, counseling, sobriety self-help meetings and other related services.

The organization states on its website that residents must maintain sobriety and work a program of recovery, live and work together as a social setting community, help maintain a clean living facility, comply with Elite House rules and regulations, attend house and community meetings, and secure a sponsor.

Reimann remains close to a school and a park: His new home is about one block west of Calumet City School District 155's Woodrow Wilson Elementary School and one block west of a park and recreation center.
