Channahon police reportedly arrest 2 with 125 pounds of marijuana

Suspects used semi-trailer to store and move drugs

Two California men were arrested in Channahon with about 125 pounds of marijuana and more than 1,100 pills of MDMA, Channahon police said.

About 8:11 a.m. Sunday, Channahon police were called to investigate a burglary to a semi-trailer at the Pilot Travel Center in the area of U.S. Route 6 and Interstate 55, according to a news release.

Witnesses reported two men cutting a lock off the trailer and unloading boxes into a minivan. One of the men appeared to be the semi-trailer’s driver. Both the minivan and the semi-trailer left after the boxes were unloaded.

Officers located the semi-trailer at the Manor Motel and spoke to the driver, Sarkis Dishchyan, 39, and an assistant driver, Antonio Higareda Jr., 24, both of California. Officers were allowed to inspect the trailer and found several boxes inconsistent with the packaged cargo, according to the release.

With the help of a K9, officers discovered marijuana inside each box. In total, there was about 125 pounds of marijuana and more than 1,100 pills of MDMA found inside the boxes.

Dishchyan and Higareda were taken into custody without incident and are currently held in the Will County jail on charges of unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
