New sprayground at Mill Creek Pool offers water play features

Ribbon-cutting set for completion of $450K project

GENEVA – Geneva Park District officials announced the opening of a new water sprayground at Mill Creek Pool, 39W125 S. Mill Creek Drive, Blackberry Township.

The interactive water sprayground has a water playground featuring a slide, a sprinkling flower and several spouting ground sprayers. Also, children can be involved in a variety of other active elements throughout the park, including a squirting snail, soaking interactive water cannon and a parrot that squirts water out of its break, the release stated.

The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting at 11:45 a.m. June 2, according to a news release.

The first 100 in attendance before 12:30 p.m. will receive a special water squirt toy and free admission to Mill Creek Pool.

“We are thrilled about this addition at Mill Creek Pool,” Nicole Vickers, superintendent of recreation, stated in the release. “The hands-on sprayground will be ADA accessible and feature vibrant colors and fun water features that allow children to utilize all five senses during play.”

The Geneva Park commissioners approved the construction of the sprayground at the June 2017 meeting, with construction beginning that fall, the release stated.

“The total cost of the sprayground project was approximately $450,000, budgeted as part of our capital improvement plan,” Vickers stated in the release.

Mill Creek Pool is a 25-meter, five-lane flat water pool with a zero-depth play area featuring a water mushroom and spray bubblers, the release stated.

Other amenities include concessions, a hospitality room available for rentals and locker rooms.

The Geneva Park District took ownership of Mill Creek Pool in 2014 as a donation from the Shodeen family.

“We are constantly looking at ways to improve our parks, programs and facilities to meet the community’s needs,” Sheavoun Lambillotte, park district executive director, stated in the release. “The acquisition of Mill Creek Pool allowed us to better serve the needs of our west side residents."

Pool passes are on sale now. New this year, people can choose to purchase a pass only for Sunset Pool Pass or for Mill Creek Pool, or a Gold Pool Pass, which allows users to be a member at both Mill Creek and Sunset Pools, the release stated.

The public can also purchase a daily admission pool pass for Mill Creek Pool and still access the new sprayground.
