Demolition planned for DeKalb Pizza Hut

DeKALB – Plans to demolish the DeKalb Pizza Hut, 701 W. Lincoln Highway, to pave the way for construction of a multipurpose building on the property will be considered during an upcoming Planning and Zoning Commission, according to a legal notice from the city.

This continues the trend of Pizza Hut restaurants abandoning the dine-in option for a more fast food approach in order to stay competitive with rival stores.

A petition filed by Julio Carrillo, representing the owner EYM Realty of Illinois LLC, seeks rezoning of the property to a Planned Development Commercial District and approval of a development plan for the 0.71-acre site.

In the Pizza Hut building’s place will be a 6,500-square-foot new building Pizza Hut will use in a carry-out and delivery capacity. There be additional commercial uses for the building with considerations to approve Unified Development Ordinance waivers for parking, maximum site coverage and other stipulations.

Interested people can submit written comments on the petitioner's proposal to the city of DeKalb's Community Development Department, 200 S. Fourth St., by 5 p.m. May 2. Comment forms, which are available on the city of DeKalb's website, can also be emailed to DeKalb Principal Planner Dan Olson at dan.olson@cityofdekalb.com.

The Planning and Zoning Commission meeting will be at 6 p.m. May 9 in the council chambers of the DeKalb Municipal Building, 200 S. Fourth St.
