DeKALB – Police said a Hinckley man filed a false report saying he was robbed at gunpoint outside a DeKalb business, and that he now is free on his signature.
Matthew A. Thomason, 22, of the 100 block of Reese Street, has been charged with disorderly conduct, typically punishable by one to three years in prison. Because police said they found drug paraphernalia in his car, he also has been charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said in court records that Thomason filed a report about 9:30 p.m. Sunday that he’d left a business in the 100 block of West Lincoln Highway and had a gun pressed to the back of his head, and his pockets pilfered. Police reviewed video from a camera at the business and saw he’d not only walked to his car alone, but that he’d driven off without issue, court records show.
Thomason later admitted to police that he’d made up the report, saying, “OK, I only lost my wallet.”
He's due back in court at 9 a.m.
