If sectional times are an indicator, several area qualifiers have a shot at returning home with medals from this weekend’s Boys Swimming & Diving State Meet in Evanston.

All winners from last week’s sectionals, along with anyone meeting predetermined qualifying times, qualified for state. The top six in each event in Friday’s preliminaries will move on to Saturday’s championship finals. The seven through 12 finishers in each preliminary event will swim Saturday in the consolation finals. All 12 finalists medal.

Lincoln-Way East sophomore Mason Rhode’s sectional time of 1:53.50 in the 200-yard individual medley was fourth in the state. Michael Petro of Hersey is on top at 1:49.78. Rhode also had the eighth-best time of 50.31 in the 100 butterfly, where Saint Viator’s Michael Balcerak is first at 48.68.

Plainfield North co-op senior Ryan Netzel’s time of 4:36.63 in the 500 freestyle was fifth best, while Lincoln-Way Central freshman Joe Bozzi posted the 10th-best time (4:38.55). The best sectional time was 4:29.74 by Colton Paulson of Peoria Notre Dame.

Lincoln-Way East junior Bryce Wyma’s 20.92 in the 50 free ranks fifth. St. Ignatius’ Parker Nolan had the best time at 20.69. Wyma also was 12th in the 100 backstroke at 51.41.

200 free relay: Plainfield North (Alex Dvorak, Ryan Crafton, Marc Avery, Netzel) 20th, 1:26.79; Lincoln-Way Central (Josh Fox, Tim Murphy, Danny O’Brien, Bozzi) 34th, 1:27.98.

400 free relay: Plainfield North (Dvorak, Crafton, Avery, Netzel) 14th, 3:10.87; Lincoln-Way East (Wyma, Rhode, Colin Brady, Bachler) 19th, 3:11.70.

200 free: Netzel (21st, 1:43.03); O’Brien (32nd, 1:44.22).

100 free: Dvorak (19th, 46.99), Avery (26th, 47.29), Bachler (31st, 47.59), Owen Ganzer, Lemont (38th, 47.70).

50 free: Avery (20th, 21.51), Bachler (42nd, 21.79), Ganzer (50th, 21.85).

200 IM: Jack O’Connor, Lockport (13th, 1:55.07), Dvorak (16th, 1:55.39).

100 back: O’Connor (27th, 52.32), Murphy (31st, 52.86).

100 fly: O’Brien (35th, 52.07).

Diving: Wrigley Fields, Lockport (24th, 422.75 points), Logan Moran, Lockport (38th, 397.50).
