JOLIET – A Joliet convict was arrested after he allegedly beat his girlfriend, held a gun to her head and threatened to shoot her, police said.
On Friday, Joliet police officers met with the 33-year-old girlfriend of Adrian Ellis, 35, of the 1500 block of Englewood Avenue, in a remote location. The girlfriend told the officers that early Friday Ellis allegedly battered her, placed a gun to her head and threatened to shoot her, Joliet Police Deputy Chief Ed Gregory said in an email.
The girlfriend said the two got into an argument that turned physical when Ellis allegedly strangled her and pulled out a gun. Officers reportedly saw physical signs of abuse on her from this incident and other ones involving Ellis, Gregory said.
Officers entered Ellis’ home to find him in the kitchen. A loaded semiautomatic gun reportedly was on the kitchen table. Gregory said the officers also recovered packaging materials for drugs, a portable scale, plastic baggies containing marijuana and ammunition.
Ellis was charged with domestic battery; aggravated assault; unlawful use of a weapon by felon; unlawful possession of a weapon by a street gang member; delivery and manufacture of 10 grams or more of marijuana; and having no firearm owner’s identification card.
Ellis has been on parole since Oct. 30. On May 16, 2007, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison for manufacture and delivery of cocaine and a derivative of the drug.
