RIVERSIDE – The Plainfield co-op boys swimming team edged Oswego, 269-260, for first place Saturday in the Independent Conference meet. The Joliet Township (139) and Morris co-op (83) teams also took part.
Plainfield’s Ryan Netzel won the 200 freestyle (1:43.1) and the 500 freestyle (4:45.0), while Marc Avery took first in the 50 freestyle (22.3), and Alex Dvorak won the 100 freestyle (48.2).
Plainfield also won the 200-medley relay (1:44.9) with Merek Avery, Alec Danko, Netzel and Marc Avery, the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.59) with Dvorak, Ryan Crafton, Marc Avery and Netzel, and the 400-freestyle relay (3:17.0) with Netzel, Marc Avery, Dvorak and Crafton.
Taking second place for Plainfield were Dvorak in the 200 IM (2:02.3) and Marc Avery in the 100 freestyle (49.1). Joliet’s David Paskvan placed second in the 100 backstroke (55.7).
WOMEN’S BOWLING
USF wins: At LaCrosse, Wisconsin, St. Francis’ Abby Ragsdale placed second overall to help the Saints win the Viterbo V-Hawk Invitational. St. Francis wrapped up the event with 7,122 pins, 443 more than second-place Clarke. Ragsdale totaled 823 pins over four games. Sarah Klawitter shot 717 for 14th place.
WOMEN’S TRACK
Crosson leads USF: At the Olivet Nazarene Invite, St. Francis’ Catherine Crosson won the 1,000-meter race in a season-best 3:01.87, Taylor Conroy came in third, and Ashlee Knott finished sixth.
USF cruised to victory in the 3,200 relay, finishing more than 30 seconds ahead of the next closest team. Sabrina Baftiri (Morris,), Eva Bruno (Seneca), Celina Mayforth and Bre Rodriguez (Dwight) ran a 9:51.19. Mayforth, Bruno and Conroy added third-, fourth- and fifth-place finishes, respectively in the 600. Brianna Yanni and Cierra Volpendesta added season-best marks in the weight throw (15.16 meters) and pole vault (2.60 meters).
Lewis at Olivet Invite: Lewis’ Cierra Pulliam took first place in the triple jump and earned an NCAA D-II provisional mark with a leap of 11.95 meters. Pulliam also won the long jump with a 5.58-meter mark and finished fourth in the 200 in 26.13.
Lane Kadlec finished first in the shot put with a toss of 14.11 meters. She also was second in the weight throw with 17.38.
MEN’S TRACK
USF at Olivet Invite: St. Francis’ Brian Blaylock ran a season-best 2:31.33 in the 1,000-meter race, finishing fourth. Jordan Duncan was second in the 60-meters in 6.96 seconds. Brandon Ruffin took fourth in the high jump (1.98 meters), and Michael Giovannelli was sixth in the 600, and Aaron Sanchez was eighth in the 800.
