High school football: Woodstock to hire Hampshire's Brasile as head coach

Mike Brasile is coming home.

Brasile, a 1999 Woodstock graduate, has accepted the head football coaching position at Woodstock, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the coaching search. He will replace Tommy Thompson, who resigned after three seasons as Woodstock’s head coach.

Brasile coached and taught the past four years at Hampshire, where his teams were 14-23. His 2015 team finished 6-4 and made the Class 6A playoffs, losing in the first round to DeKalb.

Woodstock athletic director Chris Kirkpatrick would not confirm Brasile would be coach, although he did say hiring a football coach would be on the District 200 school board’s agenda for its Feb. 13 meeting, and not the meeting coming up Tuesday.

“Without board approval, nothing’s final,” Kirkpatrick said.

As a junior, Brasile started on both lines for the Streaks’ 1997 Class 5A state championship team. Woodstock was 14-0 that season and beat Rock Island, 35-28, for the Class 5A state title.

Brasile, who played at NCAA Division III Augustana College in Rock Island, and his family live in Woodstock. After his playing career, he coached on former Woodstock coach Steve Beard’s staff for five seasons, three as offensive coordinator. He coached the offensive line for one season at Leyden before taking the Hampshire job in 2014.

Under Brasile, Hampshire ran a spread offense and relied heavily on passing. Former quarterback Jake Vincent, who graduated in 2017, was second in the area in passing in 2015, with 2,665 yards, and led the area in 2016 with 2,318 yards.
